Statement: The Mirror is a collaborative exploration of perception, identity, and the relationship between the observer and the observed. Through distorted figures , unfamiliar expressions, and contrasting imagery, the work invites viewers to question the nature of what they see and how they interpret it. The familiar and unfamiliar coexist, leaving the distinction between reality and perception open to interpretation.
The work began as an experiment in combining two distinct artistic styles, incorporating Jordan’s creature designs into a shared composition. Inspired by the unsettling visual distortions that can occur when staring into a mirror under dim lighting, the painting gradually took shape through creative exploration rather than a predetermined meaning. Its interpretation remains with the viewer, much like the reflections we encounter in everyday life.
Originally presented as an interactive experience, participants were invited to sit alone before a mirror for several minutes, observing their own reflections without looking away. This experience extended the artwork beyond the canvas, allowing the viewer to become an active participant in its exploration.
Rather than offering a definitive meaning, The Mirror leaves its questions unanswered. What one person encounters may differ entirely from what another perceives. For what is a reflection, if not something we must interpret for ourselves.
