Statement: This painting depicts two lovers seated on swing in a garden of flowers; the male figure is to the left and the female figure to the right. The painting is highly textured, it is reminiscent of both impressionism as well as pointillism. The red leaves of the trees behind the figure, as the cascades of flower petals around couple are painted with intricate stippling and the roses are painted using short swirling brushstrokes. The couple are painted with short strokes and blurred contours, suggesting emotional depth over physical precision. The palette is soft, with the use of pastel like colours; pinks, lavenders, greens; and yellows are present. At the core of this artwork is the theme of intimacy between the two lovers. They look towards each other not with lust, but with something genuine, pure, gentle and devoted.
