Statement: This painting depicts a stylized scene featuring two elephants in a field of vibrant sunflowers, roses and other vividly coloured blossoms. The backgrounds sky is fully painted with layers of white and blue swirls, taking inspiration from Van Gogh; this addition adds a movement to the scene. The foliage surrounding the elephants is painted with short expressive brushstrokes, reminiscent of impressionism. There is a focus on the emotional intimacy of the two elephants, showing the blossoming love between the mother and her calf.
